Ben Lyons gives 30 "See Its"

Lyons: Dude, this is way better than watching Goodbye, Solo. There are two types of people in this world--those who think that Ben Lyons' skills as a critic are overused and those who think they are underused. There appears to be no middle ground. To the latter category, which already includes not only ABC/Disney but also the American Film Institute and Microsoft, you can now add the New York Jets.

Ben was invited by the New York Jets to judge the tryouts for their cheerleading squad--AKA The Flight Crew--and help select the 30 finalists, according to this report and this one.

This puts a bit of a different spin on Ben's recent criticism of the movie Every Little Step, in which he said, "Maybe it’s the fact that American Idol . . . we see people audition every night. The idea of auditioning is not really interesting in a documentary.” Of course, you can only vote in American Idol via text message, but his apparent preference for voting in person would be perhaps the only occasion where he prefers to NOT use his cell phone.

But if ogling women in relative privacy were not enough, E! has posted "exclusive" video of Ben gushing over "opposite marriage" supporter Carrie Prejean in her underwear during an appearance she made as a model on the network in 2008. I'll give you the link if you are terribly interested but maintain the dignity of this as the only blog in the blogosphere which has not published scantily clad pictures of her.

Stay classy, Ben Lyons.

Oh my God, you guys are certainly retarded.

Why are you screencapping pics of a guy you clearly don't like? Why are you embedding video of a guy you clearly don't like? Why the fuck are you wasting your time on someone you hate so much?

Did you know him growing up? Are you jealous of him? There's no upside to anger man. Seriously. Think about it for one clear second. Why are you wasting precious time? You could have opened a site about supporting causes or helping people out and instead you open a site devoted to hating someone on TV? Why? Well I don't know but it makes you look like a real selfish bastard. And Ben's on TV for Christ's sake. TV of all things.

You don't even know the guy. Or maybe you did. Maybe you're just jealous of him because he got his foot in the door care of his dad or however the story goes.

You're a sick son of a bitch, you know that? You really know how to want to live out your life and I congradulate you but seriously, really? That's the way you want to go?

I also bet you're going to delete this message later because it's true and you don't want your precious "followers" who gang bash with you to read this and come upon a possible realization of what a douchebag you are.

So what Ben Lyons says things. Big whoop. Isn't America a democracy? Aren't you all allowed freedom of speech no matter how smart or stupid you are? Without judgement?

You're just clearly a selfish asshole. You can't admit that there's more than just one opinion in the world and you want to be that guy - the guy who can say whatever he wants. Bully whomever he wishes because you think with the internet - with a blog, that you've got power. Maybe you do. But it doesn't matter. It doesn't change the type of person you truly are at the end of the day.

I don't care. As long as YOU read this and YOU know what a jerk you are, that's fine with me.

By the way, have a totally nice Saturday! :)

Firstly, you're assuming this is some "random dude" that is posting a blog, and have overlooked the fact he has his name posted on each entry and can easily be contacted through eFilmCritic or the CFCA.

Secondly, since he's a critic, it's not too much of a leap from criticising films to criticising people.

"So what Ben Lyons says things. Big whoop. Isn't America a democracy? Aren't you all allowed freedom of speech no matter how smart or stupid you are? Without judgement?"

Free speech is but one of many facets of an (ideal) democracy. You've the liberty to post here bashing him as much as he has the right to bash whoever he pleases.

You can't pull the "Free speech" or "Democracy" card if you're going to contradict what you just said.

I love how you're telling him to do more worthwhile things with his time supporting people (presumably Lyons since you're either him or his fan-club founder) and yet you're using an anonymous ID telling him he's a sick son of a bitch. Great advice there, pal.

"You can't admit that there's more than just one opinion in the world and you want to be that guy - the guy who can say whatever he wants"

Uh-huh. That's why from several of his easily-searchable posts you can see he does refer to other critics, and if you're interested or bored enough, you could probably infer some admiration. It's mostly just Ben he's got an issue with, and he's not alone.

Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert were giants, and their opinions and observations are still of value to many. Could you say the same about Ben Lyons or his father?

I won't slag off Mankiewicz, since he actually seems to have WATCHED the films intently, has knowledge of the industry and does genuinely seem like he is a movie fan.

"Bully whomever he wishes because you think with the internet - with a blog, that you've got power. Maybe you do. But it doesn't matter. It doesn't change the type of person you truly are at the end of the day."

I've not heard many people acknowledge or assert that what people say and do on the internet is congruent with their real-life or "true person" since there's usually a level of artifice between them.

"Think about it for one clear second. Why are you wasting precious time?"

Something I am pondering whilst writing this message, but hey-ho*, that's the down-side of a response, isn't it?

I loved the "Sick son of a bitch" addition, by the way. Was it a reference to Se7en?

TP: Thank you for your enlightened comment. Unfortunately, you are clearly a hypocrite. You write: "Why the fuck are you wasting your time on someone you hate so much?" I might ask you the same thing.

You also write: "So what Ben Lyons says things. Big whoop. Isn't America a democracy? Aren't you all allowed freedom of speech no matter how smart or stupid you are? Without judgement?"

Yes, we all have the right to freedom of speech and are allowed to state our opinions. Which is what I am doing on this blog. There is, of course, nothing in the Constitution or Bill of Rights allowing speech "without judgement," because if there we, we would not have free speech. There is also nothing in the Constitution keeping me from deleting your post, but I'm not going because I am a really nice guy.

Finally, if you actually read this blog you will note that much of it is either analytical or tongue-in-cheek parody. I only occasionally get really pissed off by Lyons. You, however, cannot say so much about your vitriol toward this blog.

PS Jordan--thanks for the response.

As a Jet Fan at least i can now say Rich Kotite is no longer the biggest stain in Jets History.
